September - Workshop Gathering at Haida House

Over the weekend of September 11-13, Future Peoples met to map out their road forward. Throughout the weekend, we built our timeline for the next year, with elections, AGM’s and the Swiilawiid Sustainability Symposium all coming in the Fall & Winter, it was now more important than ever that we share a collective understanding of our goals and responsibilities as a Collective that represents the voices of Haida Gwaii Youth.

Taking a break from discussions, we spent our Saturday afternoon at Tl'íi'aal Túuk'aanee | Tl'laal Iinasdll Daanaay Fireweed Farm, a nearby farm owned by the Council of the Haida Nation. We assisted the Farm staff with some clean-up of out-of-season harvesting fences, after receiving a lovely tour from Miranda Barnhardt.

On Day 2, the group welcomed Elders Joyce Bennett and Dorcas Bell, along with Phred Collins, who led the group through an incredible tour of the Haida House farm, at their previous gathering in the Fall. Each were presented with gifts of appreciation, as they enjoyed some time with the group over a quiet afternoon on the patio furniture.

Through this gathering, the youth finalized their Youth Visions: Healing our Future Document.
