Swiilawiid’s partnership with the Council of the Haida Nation (CHN) began in 2018 when we organized the first Haida Gwaii Renewable Energy Symposium together. Five years later, we co-hosted the second Haida Gwaii Renewable Energy Symposium in 2023 together and our collaborative partnership built on the mutual goal of Island independence continues to grow. Today, we are working together to develop policies and plans that will help us reach 100% renewable power for Haida Gwaii.
The Council of the Haida Nation is the elected government of the Haida Nation and functions following the Constitution of the Haida Nation. The CHN was formalized in 1974 to protect Haida Rights, Title, and lands, water and air. Today our government strives for full independence, sovereignty and self-sufficiency of the Haida Nation.
